| This symposium will investigate how theater nurtures new audiences and achieves more cultural diversity of its own public. Obviously, more than just a marketing operation, the topic covers programming concepts, communication strategies and educational aspects of festivals that reach out to different constituencies and build an audience from which regularly producing cultural institutions subsequently also might benefit. The underlying assumption is that the festivals present in an emblematic manner the main challenges and contradictions of the cultural production and distribution today and that they have an experimental potential, a special position that enables them to invent and test practices that are later absorbed by the cultural organizations that produce and present year around. Not all festivals reach out consciously and successfully to the new audiences and this symposium should foreground ideas, strategies and practices that are remarkable, successful and inspiring for other festival professionals. |
| Format: the symposium will consist of 4 sessions, introduced by invited key note speakers (critics, researchers, festival professionals and artists), followed by research presentations, public interviews and panel discussions. |
Papers will not be read at the symposium but will be made available to the participants in advance, on the website of Sterijino Pozorje.
After final editing by the authors, papers will be made available at the websites of the organizers: Sterijino Pozorje (www.pozorje.org.rs), International Association of Theater Critics (IATC) (www.aict-iatc.org) and at the EFRP public depository on the website of the European Festival Association (www.efa-aef.org).

| Ce symposium enquetera sur les façons dont le théâtre alimente le nouveau public et s'efforce d'atteindre une plus grande diversité culturelle dans ses audiences. Au-dela des opérations de marketing, le symposium traitera de la conception des programmes, des stratégies de communication et des aspects éducatifs des festivals, lesquels contribuent a former un public dont les institutions ayant une production culturelle réguliere, peuvent bénéficier a leur tour. L´hypothese sous-jacente est qu'aujourd´hui les festivals illustrent de façon emblématique, les défis majeurs et les contradictions de la production et de la diffusion culturelles. De meme, ils bénéficient d'un potentiel expérimental, d'une approche particuliere, susceptibles d'etre repris par les organisations culturelles opérant l´année durant. Tous les festivals ne s´adressent pas de façon déterminée et avec succes au nouveau public et ce symposium devrait mettre en relief des idées, stratégies et pratiques remarquables, abouties et stimulantes pour d´autres professionnels responsables de festivals. |
| Format : Le symposium consistera en quatre sessions introduites par des personnalités reconnues (critiques, chercheurs, responsables de festivals et artistes) et suivies par la présentations de recherches, d'entrevues publiques ainsi que de réunions-débats. |
Les exposés ne seront pas lus au Symposium, mais ils seront mis a la disposition des participants a l´avance sur le portail de Sterijino pozorje.
Une fois terminée la rédaction finale, les exposés seront mis a disposition sur les portails des organisateurs : Sterijino pozorje (www.pozorje.org.rs), l´Association internationale des critiques de théâtre (AICT) (www.aict-iatc.org) et la page de l´EFRP sur le portail de l´Association européenne des festivals (www.efa-aef.org).
